Here it is, the other famous scene from the film I was talking about!

Chapter 13: "The Slow Dawn"

Dr. Floyd and the rest of the crew make it to the TMA-1 excavation site where six scientists are stationed. Halvorsen states he will stay behind to watch the small surveillance TV that's watching the site nonstop because he doesn't want to wear a spacesuit.

After the rest of the crew put on their spacesuits, they leave the airlock heading toward TMA-1. The project supervisor radios to the others to line up in front of the monolith for a picture, something to mark this historic moment.

Dr. Floyd goes up to the monolith and observes it for a bit, still wondering what it even is. As the sunlight hits the slab, Dr. Floyd suddenly hears a loud distorted noise on his radio. The others hear it as well and instinctively clasp their helmets. The sunlight has triggered TMA-1.

As a bonus, here is the iconic scene from the 1968 film:

Chapter 14: "The Listeners"

Various spacecraft such as Deep Space Monitor 79, Orbiter M 15, High Inclination Probe 21, and Artificial Comet 5 pick up a strange signal coming from the moon. They all report their findings back to Earth.

A radiation forecaster back on Earth looks at his computer screen and notices a peculiar sight: an unknown energy pattern coming from the moon and heading out into deep space.
